Passerines

In this first workshop, we'll learn to identify the passerines in our neighborhoods—the ones that fly close to us and the ones that feed on the ground. We'll listen to their songs and discover whether they sound flute-like, beaded, shrill, or even whinnying, as well as the...

Birds of Prey

In this second JDJ bird-watching workshop, I’ll teach you how to identify the three main birds of prey found in agricultural areas—by their wingspan, silhouette, and calls. Here at JDJ, we’re lucky that our forest is...

Agriculture & Migration

In this third workshop of the JDJ “Meet the Birds” series, we’ll continue observing other passerines that live near us. We’ll then set out to explore the great adventure of migration. Where do the birds go in late fall in...

Workshops | LES OISEAUX DES JDJ WORKSHOPS

In this fourth workshop, we’ll listen to the songs of the JDJ birds and learn to identify which birds each song belongs to.

Through their songs, birds seek to communicate with one another to protect their territory, find food, and—more often than not—sound the alarm to warn all species of birds in the garden or in the woods of danger.

Not to mention the mating calls of the males, who are searching for a mate to start a new family at the dawn of spring.

Listening to them and imitating their calls—by whistling, using our hands, or making onomatopoeic sounds—will be a delightful way to connect with the birds, who often respond to our calls.

This workshop was developed by Hélène Carreras, who trained at BirdLife and has been passionate about ornithology for 30 years.
